This soundwalk starts at WORM and leads towards Eendrachtsplein through the entire Nieuwe Binnenweg and ends at the Lage Erfbrug. The soundwalk – which will take about 35 minutes – consists of recordings from the Nieuwe Binnenweg and other parts of the city, as proposing a soundscape exchange. The piece is also concerned with a sound historical memory of the street. For that reason, there is a certain revivalism implied by the choice of specific sounds that once belonged there. Three times during this walk you will hear the sound of pile construction work. At that moment, please stop walking and observe your surroundings. You may continue your walk when it feels right.

Een geluidswandeling met architectuur als partituur Theatermaker Anne Rooschuz en geluidskunstenaar Robert van Heumen nemen je mee op ontdekkingsreis langs gebouwen van de Amsterdamse School. Via een koptelefoon maken kinderen je op speelse wijze attent op allerlei bijzonderheden in de wijk: rare uitstulpingen, nutteloze rondingen, blinde muren en geheime doorkijkjes. 'Steenklank' is een muzikale interpretatie van architectuur, gekoppeld aan een spel van buurtstemmen en straatgeluiden.

Stemmengeschuifel, met Heijermans door de Pijp ‘Hallo, ik ben Kitty Courbois. Ooit speelde ik de rol van Kniertje, de vissersweduwe in Op hoop van zegen. ’n arm mens wordt wel bezocht – regen en regen – de boel most rotte – d’r was geen houe an – en zo ga je de winter in – de harde winter – ach, ach, ach! Dat is een rol die in mij zit.’ Zo start de tachtig minuten durende geluidswandeling Stemmengeschuifel, met Heijermans door de Pijp die u door de ogen van Heijermans door de Amsterdamse Pijp van de vorige eeuw voert. Laat u leiden door een unieke audiomix van geluid en muziek, terwijl Kitty Courbois, Charlie-Chan Dagelet, Fred Goessens, Alwin Pulinckx, Halina Reijn, Gijs Scholten van Aschat, Bart Slegers en Margijn Bosch Heijermans teksten met hun stem tot leven wekken.

Secrets of the Canals

The tour brings together sound design, documentary reporting and your own fantasy to totally change your view of the canals of Amsterdam.

Simultaneously, citizens in Istanbul aboard one of the many ferries across the Bosphorus to get from the Asian part to the European part of the city. During this soundwalk you explore the water, looking for similarities and differences between these two cities. Many passengers regard the IJ and the Bosphorus not in terms of division but as connecting elements between geographically-separated parts of their lives. Work and home, study and going out, the kids’ school or shopping. For them, the crossing is a moment of peace in their daily urban routine. A chance to stare across the water and dream away to distant shores. Sail with them and let the special soundtrack entice you. While listening the river IJ will gradually transform into the Bosphorus. When you step off the ferry you are in Istanbul. The walk comes to an end at the Beursplein in the centre of Amsterdam.
