Half of Alexanderplatz is currently a building site that effects its soundscape greatly. The sound of drilling, earth moving and other heavy machines is ever present at levels that mask people and generally obscures the sonic atmosphere. It is no longer possible to hear the deep bass from the UBahn underground. Surrounding roads and walkways have been partially blocked and traffic flows re-routed. Yellow trams no longer rumble across the open plaza (a key sound) as the tracks are being replaced. Berlin has constant building work that shifts from location to location. In time this one will be completed, only for the next to start.
