‘Friendship of the Peoples’ fountain by Sonicaggregator

During all the building work of 2021 the ‘Friendship of the Peoples’ fountain remains Alexanderplatz's focal point. Tourists from all nations still group here, sitting around the edge, chatting, looking at maps, checking phones, deciding what next. The fountain water fizzes. Several musicians play. Rock ballads, classical music, Arabic drumming. It is a warm day and the reverberant acoustics are soupy, made less clear by hums, whines and bangs from the building site. An older man, slightly drunk, very briefly strokes the fake fur of my microphone wind shield, and walks on. Friendship?! Recording by Peter Cusack
