Residential apartment blocks start very close to the concrete expanse of Alexanderplatz and the huge roads of the area. Once inside surrounded by the ten-storey buildings it is a different, much quieter, world, of car parks, green areas, trees and playgrounds. The city is very present at a distance. Sirens frequently pass, shifting their pitch at speed. But there is time for children, rustling leaves and footsteps, even an occasional crow or sparrow. Recording by Peter Cusack
