Dankzij de financiële steun van het Life-fonds van de Europese Unie kon Natuurpunt ook hier weer een natuurpareltje creëren.
De historische toegangsweg tot de Demerbroeken werd opnieuw vrijgemaakt en uit de vijvertjes werd het slib verwijderd. In deze heldere, zonbeschenen poelen kunnen veel waterplanten groeien: een ideale thuis voor vissen, kikkers en libellen! Ook de Europees bedreigde kamsalamander en de ijsvogel voelen zich hier thuis.
