Van op Scharebrug kan je de Blankenbergse vaart goed bekijken. Langs dit vaartje wordt het overtollige water naar zee afgevoerd. In de brede rietkragen huizen veel rietvogels. Langs de oever is er ook een officiële vissersplaats ingericht op gronden van Natuurpunt. Wel vind Natuurpunt dat de waterhuishouding teveel op de landbouw is gericht en veel te weinig op natuur. Hierdoor dreigt de Uitkerkse Polder uit te drogen.
