De Verkeerde Lieve Heer was een rustpunt voor de bedevaarders die vanuit Bergeijk naar de Sint-Janskapel in Overpelt trokken. Het kruisbeeld wordt sinds 1999 beschermd als monument.
In 2012 werd het door Natuurpunt ontmanteld en vakkundig in zijn oude glorie hersteld. Natuurpunt heeft zo niet alleen aandacht voor de natuurwaarden maar zeker ook respect voor het cultuurhistorisch erfgoed.
