Het Wandelbos Hoofddorp en de Fruittuinen vormen een belangrijk historisch gebied. Het is het eerste en oudste bos in de polder. Het park is rond 1935 ontworpen door architect Wieger Bruin en aangelegd in het kader van de werkverschaffing in de periode van 1935 tot 1939. Ook was er behoefte aan een proefbedrijf voor de fruitteelt om de landbouw een impuls te geven.
