På Søren Kirekgaards Plads ligger det Kongelige Bibliotek - i daglig tale 'Den Sorte Diamant', som var det første større kulturbyggeri i Københavns Havn. Her ligger også en af havnens sidste ubebyggede grunde, hvor Realdania lige nu opfører Bryghusprojektet - 'en urban motor ', som stjernearkitekten bag, Rem Koolhaas, selv udtrykker det.
