This canal was constructed in 1920. Until the 1950's small boats were dragged over land from one canal to the other here because the water level was still at polder height in the canal, this meant that it was up to the people in the city using the canals to concur the differences in water levels. The lawn (grass) patches parallel to the Admiralengracht have been planted in a specific composition with the trees just like in city district "South" - Zuid. The goal was to construct a canal and shores that would boast space and would fascinate its passers.
