One can see here a small part of a dike called the Spaarndammerdijk, it was constructed in the 13th century in order keep the sea at bay. The large volume of what is now essentially a lake called "Het IJ" had not been drained and tamed yet. The village is landmarked by the beautiful Saint peters church. This church was built in 1664. The grandparents of Vincent van Gogh married in this church. As you can see some old houses have also been preserved. The sculpture that stands here has the title "The lost farmer" and was devised by Gomes. Behind the farmer stands his wife. Note that she has not been added to the title of the work.
