Sonic Fields Vlieland

A listening expedition on Vlieland Created in 2017 by sound artist / composer Francisco López ‘Sonic Fields Vlieland’ is an audio composition made exclusively with original environmental recordings done in the island of Vlieland (North Sea, Holland). With no additional instruments, voices or any other sounds, these recordings have been artistically transfigured and dramatically evolved to create a new virtual sonic reality. As presented in this GPS-controlled App, this creation can only be heard while the listener is physically in Vlieland. The composition has several geo-located ‘movements’: in order to listen to them you need to physically reach specific locations in the island. These locations –as well as the recommended nature hiking route to reach them indicated in the map [*]– have been selected for both their natural features and their suitability for focused and relaxed listening. Once you physically reach a location, please find a comfortable spot, sit down or lie down and enjoy the listening trip of that ‘movement’ in that natural surrounding environment. Besides your dedicated listening, good quality headphones (not the typical simple smartphone earbuds) are crucial, as this composition contains lots of low frequencies, subtle sonic materials, virtual sonic space, and other aural delicacies that would be a shame to miss! The complete composition is 3-hours long but you can of course freely choose to listen to only some of its ‘movements’. You can also follow other routes of your own to reach the listening locations: besides hiking, some locations are easily accessible by bike or even approached with the bus line that connects the village of Oost-Vlieland in the east with the Posthuys buildings in the center of the island. While most listening locations are within easy reach, there is an ultimate longest movement at the very far west end of the island, in the amazing desertic zone known as Vliehors, for the truly adventurous hikers-listeners! [*] RECOMMENDED ROUTE (one entire day of hiking and listening): Starting from the Vuurtoren (lighthouse) of Oost-Vlieland, follow the route indicated in the map all the way to the west end of the island. On your way back, when you reach the Posthuys you can get a bus ride back to Oost-Vlieland (make sure to check bus schedules in advance). This would make a total of around. 7-8 hours of hiking (approx. 32 Km) plus 3 hours of listening. If you prefer to hike back from the Posthuys you will have around 2 additional hours (approx. 8 Km) along the road through the south shore of the island. VERY IMPORTANT: please note that the entire westhalf of the island (Vliehors zone) is ONLY ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC ON WEEKENDS.

Start je ontdekkingstocht van het Rotterdams platteland bij metrohalte Rodenrijs, slechts vier haltes vanaf Rotterdam Centraal. Vanaf hier wandel je zo naar Melkschuur Zuidpolder, waar je zelf op zoek kunt gaan naar wilde bloemen, vlinders en vogels. Vervolg je weg over het Polderpad. Na 20 minuten wandelen door de natuur van de Zuidpolder kom je uit bij Belevenisboerderij Schieveen! En hier is van alles te beleven: ravot in Speelnatuur van OERRR en knuffel met boerderijdieren. Grootouders en ouders kunnen rustig een kopje koffie of thee op het terras drinken. Toegang tot de Belevenisboerderij en Speelnatuur van OERRR is gratis, consumpties dienen wel van de boerderij te zijn. Kijk op www.belevenisboerderij.nl voor de actuele openingstijden.

Bergen op Zoom is trots op zijn historie, en terecht! De middeleeuwse stadskern, de gezellige Grote Markt, de prachtige monumenten: het zijn echte trekpleisters. Al eeuwenlang zijn hier honderden succesvolle zilversmeden actief die prachtige dingen hebben gemaakt en nog maken. Voor het eerst in de geschiedenis krijgen ze de aandacht die ze verdienen. Van 20 mei tot en met 29 oktober 2017 is er namelijk een tentoonstelling te zien in het Markiezenhof, de voormalige Synagoge, de Gevangenpoort, de Sint-Gertrudiskerk en de Ontmoetingskerk. ‘Voorbij ijdelheid. Zes eeuwen zilver in en rond Bergen op Zoom’. Van woestijnzilver tot Joris en de draak: het maakt deel uit van een Zilverbeleving voor jong en oud in Bergen op Zoom. Er komen zelfs topstukken van het Rijksmuseum, uit Düsseldorf en Heidelberg. Aan de hand van zestien verhaallijnen en diverse activiteiten ontdek je de vele gezichten van zilver in vijf monumenten en daarbuiten. In de historische binnenstad van Bergen op Zoom hebben door de eeuwen heen zilversmeden gewoond en gewerkt. Veel objecten die in de tentoonstelling te zien zijn, zijn door smeden in één van deze panden vervaardigd. Met deze wandelroute loopt u langs de interessante plaatsen van de Bergse zilvergeschiedenis. De route gidst u door de middeleeuwse stadskern langs panden, waarvan een leuk en interessant verhaal verteld kan worden over het Bergse zilver. Zo beleeft u op de kasseien de Bergse zilvergeschiedenis.

Een collectie fragmenten, verzameld tijdens een intensieve geluidsverkenning van de buurt, met specifieke aandacht voor zowel het gegeven thema "gentrification" als de alledaagse leefomgeving en ritmes in het algemeen. Gedurende de periode van ruim een jaar (2017-2018) zijn op verscheidene momenten opnames gemaakt van omgevingsgeluid en zijn bewoners geinterviewd. Het materiaal is verwerkt in de eenmalige live radio-uitzending GENTRIFRICTION, die samen met een selectie opnames van de geluidsomgeving te beluisteren is op deze kaart. ENGLISH Audio clips collected during an intensive exploration of the neighborhood’s sounds and noises, with a particular attention to the given theme ‘gentrification’ as well as the urban soundscape and rhythms at large. Field recordings of the sound environment and interviews with inhabitants at different moments over a period of one year (2017-2018) are incorporated in the one-off radio broadcast GENTRIFRICTION.
