Eikenburg was vroeger een landgoed, het huidige bos heeft deze naam behouden.Het Eikenburgbos en het Vinkelsebos waren oorspronkelijk geplant voor houtproductie.
De bomen staan vaak op opgehoogde wallen (rabatten) met sloten ertussen.De greppels dienen om het water af te voeren.
